Pyroclasm is inspired by the massive natural forces that created the basalt rock formations of the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. It imagines a leap across the sea to the shipyards of the Clyde, where similar human forces were employed in the manufacture of iron ships.Pyroclasm explores the idea of the intense heat and pressure needed to create the basalt ‘rivets’ of this natural phenomenon and the similar forces involved in fastening the hulls of the vessels. A fiery, sharp opening sees rust and saffron collide with pepper and citrus. Smoky resins and mineral notes expand upon this effect in the heart, while deep, tar-like cade and grounding resins define the long-lasting base, with woods and ambergris adding a salty oceanic resonance. Intensely mineral, almost elemental, Pyroclasm is about the power of fire to destroy and fortify in equally awe-inspiring measure.
