“In Mother’s Milk, I was asked to create an extremely milky fragrance that symbolized children’s fantasies of their mothers as either ‘good’ or ‘bad. ’For the ‘Good Mother,’ I drew from a fond memory: the smell of my children’s heads when my wife was breastfeeding them, a creamy and addictive odor of hot milk and Orris root. The perfume’s representation of the ‘Bad Mother’ was created through the animalic darkness of suede.” – Antoine Lie, PerfumerMother's Milk features one of the most expensive precious ingredients in a perfumer’s palette: natural Orris, the hand-picked, dried, and distilled roots from the Iris flower, in this case, cultivated in Bavaria. The creation of Orris can take up to five years from start to finish, but the result is worth it: Orris imparts a velvety, creamy-woody, violet-like aura to compositions, adding an ineffable elegance and sensuality to fragrances that is both celestial and earthy.
